Why Charter!

by Hampton Conway, Conference UMM Charters/EMS

Hamp ConwayIn each Annual Conference there shall be a conference organization named United Methodist Men.  The function of the conference organization of United Methodist Men shall be to work with the district organization and local units of United Methodist Men in developing programs to meet the needs and interest of men and the concerns and responsibilities of discipleship.  It is to assist in personal witness and evangelism. It is to encourage and support spiritual growth and faith development.  It is also to promote the objectives and responsibilities of the Men's Division.  This is according to The Book of Discipline of the United Methodist Church.

How is that done?  I thought you would never ask.  It's done by every church in the Baltimore/Washington Conference having a Chartered unit of United Methodist Men in its church.  Every year the unit of men is to Charter.  This is done to allow your men to become a link in the international movement of men extending the Kingdom of God.  Your Charter gift supports missions in a way one unit alone couldn't.  The missions include The Living Prayer center, Civic Youth Serving Agencies/Scouting, and the exciting Men in Mission emphasis.  Chartering provides training for officers and programs designed for men.  Chartering is a base from which to reach out in mission through the effort of thousands of men's groups.    The cost to Charter for the first time during January - March is $85, April - June is $63.75 and July - September is $42.50.    Charter application & recertification
