Scouting Volunteers Needed

Dear UMM Friends,

As you know, a primary outreach program of the United Methodist Men is Scouting. When we speak of Scouting in the United Methodist Church we refer to Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Campfire, 4H, and Big Brothers/Big Sisters. Scouting in the United Methodist Church must be seen as a ministry that builds character and brings young people closer to Christ. These children and youth Scouting programs encourage religious institutions to instruct these children in their faith by using church and faith based scouting resources. As members of the Baltimore Washington Conference we intend to use our Discipleship Adventure as a means to bring youth and children into our churches by encouraging Scouting within our walls.

DID YOU KNOW THAT IN MANY OF OUR CHURCHES THERE ARE MORE CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE IN OUR SCOUTING UNITS THAN THERE ARE IN OUR CHURCH SCHOOL AND UMYF!!!!!! DID YOU KNOW THAT ABOUT HALF OF THESE CHILDREN AND YOUTH HAVE NO CHURCH HOME!!!!!

In House Evangelism – Making young disciples for Jesus Christ by nurturing those children already within our walls who need a church family.

We have a surprising number of resources, but a strong and dedicated group of people must be willing to answer God’s call to build these programs in our regions and Conference. Scouting can be the doorway for these children that leads to our church school and UMYF.

We need persons who are  former scouts who remember  the blessings of Scouting in their own lives. We need those who may have no Scouting background, but who are looking for the right place and time to nurture children and youth for Christ. We need those who would be willing to publicize this Scouting Ministry in their region. Those who are active Scouters could simply make announcements concerning our ministry at Scout meetings where they normally attend.

We also need persons who would be willing to meet with us on a quarterly basis, at the Conference Center, to provide the vision needed to bring children and youth to Christ through Scouting. We have the program resources, but these children need you in any capacity that you might be able to serve. Please share this communication with your church friends and pastor.

If you feel that this communication may be a call to serve in some capacity, please contact us.
