UMM Celebrate the Dog Days of Summer with Car Show & Picnic

By Richard Campbell, Annapolis District UMM President

Calvary UMM cookingLast year I had the opportunity to experience Calvary UMMen's first Community Car Show Picnic.  The food- hot dogs, hamburgers, ice cream, desserts and much more - were outstanding.   I saw children getting their faces painted and parents enjoying the many games.  It was a sight to behold as folks from all walks of life gathered together in a spirit of fun surrounded by the beautiful setting of Calvary UMChurch. Of course, the piece de resistance was the beautiful car show - that is not to be missed.

Calvary UMM The objective of the project was to raise funds for Calvary's then newly formed United Methodist Men organization. Proceeds from this event were to assist them in their mission projects in Appalachia and Katrina rebuilding and to support the Boy Scouts.  It was also an opportunity to partner with Calvary United Methodist Women and to reach out to the community rather than limit the advertising to just congregation and friends.

In the end, the event was a huge success.  and a great fundraiser.  More importantly, this afternoon of fun and Christian fellowship may  have been the catalyst fCalvary UMMor someone to find a new church family.

If you are free on Saturday, August 14th, come by and taste the wonderful food, meet great folks, enjoy the fun first hand, and experience the diversity of your community at Calvary's Second Annual Event. Don't forget to check out the vintage cars!
